Simple Christmas Lip Balm Holder Tutorial

The simple Christmas lip balm holders are perfect for Christmas gifts or party favors and they are easy and quick to make.

Every year for Christmas my husband’s family puts Chapstick in each stocking.  A single stick of Chapstick is a little boring on its own so this year I made holders for each one.

These are super easy but they do require a Sizzix die.  The Sizzix die came with an owl and flower, though cute, not going to work for this project.  Instead I bought a Christmas tree die that also came with snowflakes.  It is not a Sizzix die but it works in the machine.   I found it on Amazon but you could use holiday dies that you currently own.  If you would rather not purchase the lip balm holder die, Style Me Pretty has a tutorial on how to cut the lip balm holder out without the die.

I made two different kinds of Chapstick holders.  One decorated with cut outs from another die and one that I created in Canva.  The designs I created in Canva can be downloaded and printed from your printer on cardstock.  Each sheet makes one of each  designs.

Christmas Lip Balm MaterialsMaterials:

  • Cardstock
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Glue Stick
  • Tape Runner
  • Ribbon

Lip Balm Holders with Die Cut Accessories

When cutting the outside card stock, you want to the wrong side of the paper to be facing the cutting die.  When cutting the paper for the inside, you want the right side of the paper to be facing the cutting die.  They will line up much better this way.

Using the outside lip balm holder die, cut the card stock for the outside of your holder.  Using the inside lip balm holder die, the side with the flaps, cut the inside paper or cardstock.Glue the embellishements to the outside of your cardstock.

Glue the embellishments onto the outside of your lip balm holder.  Fold both the inside piece and the outside piece along the fold lines.

Use your tape runner to add double sided tape around the paper that will be the inside of your lip balm holder.  I did try using a glue stick but it wasn’t strong enough for this.

Glue the two together.  Make sure to line up the holes on both sides and then stick the middle down.Glue the 2 pieces togehter being carful to line up the holes.

Place your Chapstick inside the holder under the Cut 6 in of ribbon, thread it through the holes at the top of your Chapstick holder, and tie a loose knot.

For the snowflake lip balm holder, use green cardstock for the outside, white cardstock or the inside, and white or shiny white cardstock or paper of the embellishments.  The border is the from the Sizzix lip balm holder set.

For the holly lip balm holder, use red cardstock for the outside, Christmas scrapbook paper for the inside, and green and red cardstock for the embellishments.

Printed Lip Balm Holders

For the printed lip balm holders your will need to download the pdf from the materials list.  You could also make your own using Canva or Microsoft Publisher. I like to use Canva because they have graphics you can use for free.  It did take some trial and error to create so have to some scrap paper handy if you are going to try to create your own print file.

Use your die to cut the shape out of the cardstock.Print the template onto white cardstock.  Cute the paper in half and then half again so you have 4 roughly equal pieces.  Use the outside part of the lip balm cut die to cut each design out.  Just line the cut die up where you think the graphics would look best on your finished lip balm holder. I cut these with the cutting die facing the right side of the paper.  This made it much easier to cute but the pieces don’t line up as well when you glue them together.

Use the inside part of the lip balm cutting die to cut Christmas scrapbook paper for the inside of each holder.

Use the tape runner to glue the two pieces together.Use your tape runner to add double sided tape around the paper that will be the inside of your lip balm holder.  I did try using a glue stick but it wasn’t strong enough for this.

Put the two together.  Make sure to line up the holes on both sides and then stick the middle down.

Put your Chapstick inside the holder under the Cut 6 in of ribbon, thread it through the holes at the top of your Chapstick holder, and tie a loose knot.

These are super cute and easy to make. These would make great stocking stuffers, gifts for coworkers, or party favors.  I filled mine with holiday Chapstick that I found at Target.  It came with Holiday Cinnamon, Caramel Crème, and Holiday Cocoa.

I would love to see how your project turns out. Post your pictures to Instagram or Twitter #boutsofspontaneouscrafting
